An unforgettable corner-room view, thoughtful IHG Platinum recognition, and a convenient central Auckland location made this one of my favorite hotel stays in New Zealand—despite one frustrating issue.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Stay: October 2026
Travel style: Solo luxury travel
Room: Upgraded Premium Corner Room, 21st floor
IHG status: Platinum Elite
Would I return? Yes, but I’d request a non-connecting room.
My overall impression
I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels with beautiful views, but Hotel Indigo Auckland delivered one of the best I’ve experienced anywhere.
From my upgraded corner room on the 21st floor, expansive windows on two sides framed incredible views toward Auckland’s harbour. It was the kind of room that made me want to spend time simply enjoying the view.
The hotel’s central location was extremely convenient; the bed was comfortable, and the recognition I received as an IHG Platinum Elite member was excellent.
There was, however, one significant drawback: noise from the connecting room repeatedly woke me late at night.
Despite that frustration, I would absolutely consider staying here again—with one specific room request.

Location: Central, convenient, and surprisingly peaceful
Hotel Indigo Auckland has an excellent location for exploring the city, particularly if you prefer getting around on foot.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Sky Tower and Auckland’s waterfront ferry terminals, making it especially convenient for catching a ferry to Waiheke Island or exploring the harbour.
Restaurants, shops, and many of the city’s central attractions are also close by, so I found very little need for transportation while staying here.
One particularly appealing feature is its position beside St Patrick’s Cathedral and its adjoining square. From one side of my corner room, the outlook was over the quiet cathedral courtyard rather than directly into another high-rise building.
That gave the room a wonderful sense of openness and privacy, especially with windows on two sides. There was no neighboring tower looking directly into that side of the room, and the cathedral square was peaceful at night.
Despite the central location, I experienced no significant outside noise. The room was wonderfully quiet until guests returned to the connecting room late in the evening.
For solo travelers wanting to explore Auckland on foot, visit Waiheke Island, or simply enjoy the city without renting a car, I think the location is one of the hotel’s biggest advantages.

My room: Compact, comfortable, and an extraordinary view
As an IHG Platinum Elite member, I received an upgrade to a Premium Corner Room on the 21st floor, facing the harbour.
And the view was spectacular.
With windows on two sides, the room offered a sweeping perspective over the city and toward the water. It was easily one of the most impressive hotel-room views I’ve experienced.
The room itself was on the smaller side, but traveling solo, I didn’t find that particularly bothersome.
The comfortable bed was another highlight, and the bathroom featured a lovely rainfall shower.
While travelers needing additional space might find the room compact, I thought the combination of comfort, modern design, and extraordinary views made it a wonderful place to stay.
If you’re considering this hotel, I’d strongly recommend looking into the higher-floor corner rooms.

IHG Platinum recognition: Above and beyond expectations
One of the most impressive parts of my stay was how proactively the hotel recognized my IHG Platinum Elite status.
When I arrived, my upgraded room was already available for early check-in.
Even better, a 4 p.m. late checkout had already been arranged without my needing to request it.
These are the kinds of thoughtful touches that make hotel loyalty status feel genuinely valuable.
I also received a welcome gift of wine and candy, which was a lovely surprise.
While upgrades and late checkout depend on availability and the terms of the loyalty program, I appreciated how seamlessly everything was handled.

Breakfast: A generous combination of à la carte and buffet
Breakfast was included with my room rate, and I appreciated the combination of made-to-order options and a buffet.
My breakfast included one à la carte entrée and a choice of one side dish.
There was also a buffet selection featuring breads, pastries, meats, and cheeses.
Barista-made coffee was included as well, which I always appreciate—especially at an upscale hotel.
The arrangement offered more variety than a simple continental breakfast without requiring guests to rely entirely on a buffet.
Breakfast inclusions can vary depending on the rate booked, so I’d recommend checking the specific terms of your reservation.
Room service: Convenient and perfectly decent
I also ordered room service during my stay.
The food was decent and met my expectations for a convenient in-room meal, although it wasn’t a particular highlight of the experience. I ordered steak frites and an apple dessert. The steak was cooked well & the fries were tasty. However, the dessert was too sweet for my liking and I did not eat much of it.
For me, the real reasons to choose Hotel Indigo Auckland were the room views, location, and overall comfort rather than the dining.

The biggest drawback: Noise from the connecting room
My one significant complaint was the sound insulation between my room and the adjoining guest room.
It’s important to distinguish this from general hotel noise.
My room was perfectly quiet until the neighboring guests returned late at night.
Unfortunately, once they arrived, I could hear virtually everything happening next door.
This repeatedly woke me during my stay and was particularly frustrating because the room was otherwise so peaceful.
My room had a connecting door, which may have contributed to the sound transmission, although I can’t say for certain whether a non-connecting room would have been significantly quieter.
For a hotel offering such a comfortable bed and relaxing atmosphere, the lack of acoustic privacy was disappointing.
It’s the one thing that would make me cautious about accepting the same room again.
Is Hotel Indigo Auckland good for solo travelers?
Absolutely.
The location makes exploring central Auckland easy, and the compact room size wasn’t an issue for me traveling alone.
The comfortable bed, rainfall shower, and extraordinary views made the room an enjoyable place to return to after a day out.
I also appreciated the attentive handling of my IHG status benefits, which made arrival and departure particularly convenient.
For solo travelers who value location, comfort, and a beautiful room more than having an enormous amount of space, I think Hotel Indigo Auckland is a very appealing choice.
What I’d consider before booking
- Request a higher-floor corner room if views matter to you. My 21st-floor harbour-facing room was the highlight of the stay.
- Ask for a non-connecting room. Given my experience with noise from the neighboring room, this would be my most important request on a return visit.
- Expect a relatively compact room. Mine was perfectly adequate for solo travel, but travelers wanting lots of space may prefer a larger category.
- Check your breakfast rate. My booking included an à la carte entrée, side dish, buffet selection, and barista coffee.
- Don’t assume loyalty upgrades are guaranteed. My Platinum Elite recognition was excellent, but upgrades and late checkout are subject to the applicable program terms and availability.
Final verdict: Would I stay again?
Yes—and that’s despite the noise issue.
Hotel Indigo Auckland delivered one of the best views I’ve ever had from a hotel room, along with a convenient location, comfortable accommodations, and exceptional recognition of my IHG Platinum Elite status.
The connecting-room noise was a genuine disappointment, particularly because it interrupted what would otherwise have been a wonderfully peaceful stay.
But it wouldn’t stop me from returning.
Next time, I’d simply request a non-connecting room—and hope for another spectacular harbour view.
